New Orleans Creole Style Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Shrimp
  • 2 cups Tomatoes
  • 2 cups Okra (diced)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Celery (chopped)
  • 4 tbl. Butter
  • 2 tbl. Flour
  • 2 Onions (chopped)
  • 1 Garlic clove (crushed)
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Pepper
  • 1 Bay leaf

Method

  1. Take a pan over a steady heat.
  2. Add the butter and flour.
  3. Then add the chopped onions, pepper and celery.
  4. Once browned, add the shrimp, tabasco, tomatoes, okra, garlic and the bay leaf.
  5. Then pour in the water.
  6. Bring the mixture to the boil.
  7. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about an hour.
  8. Prepare rice while shrimp is cooking.
  9. Place rice on a serving dish along with shrimp.
