Hong Kong Style Honey Walnut Prawns Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Prawns (peeled / deveined)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Cooking oil
  • 2/3 cup Glutinous rice flour
  • 2/3 cup White sugar
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbl. Honey
  • 1 tbl. Condensed milk
  • 4 Egg whites

Method

  1. Take a small saucepan and pour in the water and sugar.
  2. Bring to the boil and then add the chopped walnuts.
  3. Boil the mixture for about 2 minutes, then drain the liquid off and place the walnuts onto a cookie sheet.
  4. In a mxing bowl, whip the egg whites until fluffy.
  5. Now fold in the flour gently to keep the air in.
  6. Heat a little cooking oil in a skillet over a medium / high heat.
  7. Dip the prawns in the batter, covering them completely.
  8. Now sauté them until golden brown.
  9. Drain off any excess fat onto paper towels.
  10. Take a mixing bowl and combine the mayonnaise, condensed milk and honey.
  11. Arrange the prawns on a serving plate and drizzle generously with the mixture.
  12. Then garnish with walnuts over the top before serving.
